Subject: Grandma's brown bread

Brown Bread

3 packages dry yeast

2 cups lukewarm water

1 large spoonful (1 Tbs.) lard (shortening)

3/4 jar molasses

6-8 cups flour

salt

Mix yeast and water and shortening until dissolved. Add molasses

and then flour until right consistency. Let rise in a greased bowl

until double in size.

Knead on a floured board, adding more flour if neccessary. Divide

dough into 3 equal part and place in greased loaf pans and let rise

again. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
