Asparagus Pie

1 15-oz. can asparagus spears, drained (or 1 lb. fresh, cooked)

1/4 cup butter

1 slice wheatberry bread (soft), torn into small cubes

2 Tbsp flour

1 cup non-fat milk

1 cup shredded medium Tillamook cheddar cheese

1/2 cup sliced almonds

Arrange asparagus spears in 9" glass pie pan. Put bread cubes in a

mixing bowl and set aside. Melt margarine in a saucepan. Add 2 TBS

of the melted margarine to bread cubes, mix to coat. Blend flour

into remaining margarine in saucepan. Add milk to saucepan and cook,

stirring until thick and smooth. Stir in cheese and almonds. When

cheese is incorporated, pour all over asparagus. Sprinkle top with

bread cubes and bake at 350 deg. for 20 min.
