Sweet and Sour Beef Stew

1 1/2 lb. beef stew meat, cut in 1-in. cubes

2 Tbsp. cooking oil

1 cup chopped carrot

1 cup sliced onion

1 8-oz. can tomato sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup vinegar

1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

4 tsp. cornstarch

Hot cooked noodles

Poppy seed (optional)

Brown meat in hot oil. Add next 6 ingredients, 1/2 cup water, and

1 t. salt. Cover and cook over low heat until meat is tender,

about 2 hours. Combine cornstarch and 1/4 C. cold water; add to

beef mixture. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Serve over

noodles sprinkled with poppy seed. Garnish with carrot curls and

parsley, if desired. Makes 4 servings.
