Slow Cooker Apple Butter
12 apples -- Gravenstein (12-14), or other cooking apples2 cups apple cider, or apple juice
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Core and cut into eighths, apples, to measure about 16 cups.
Combine apples and cider or apple juice in a slow cooker. Cover
and cook on low setting for about 10 to 12 hours or until apples
are mushy. Remove apples from cooker and press through a colander
with a potato masher to separate the apple pulp from the peel.
Discard apple peel. Return pureed apple mixture to pot and add
sugar, cinnamon and cloves. Cook at high setting, uncovered, until
apple mixture comes to desired consistency. Stir occasionally.
Makes approximately 6 - 8 oz. jars.
