Slow Cooker Apple Butter

12 apples -- Gravenstein (12-14), or other cooking apples

2 cups apple cider, or apple juice

2 cups sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Core and cut into eighths, apples, to measure about 16 cups.

Combine apples and cider or apple juice in a slow cooker. Cover

and cook on low setting for about 10 to 12 hours or until apples

are mushy. Remove apples from cooker and press through a colander

with a potato masher to separate the apple pulp from the peel.

Discard apple peel. Return pureed apple mixture to pot and add

sugar, cinnamon and cloves. Cook at high setting, uncovered, until

apple mixture comes to desired consistency. Stir occasionally.

Makes approximately 6 - 8 oz. jars.
