Apple Crumble

75g / 3 oz margarine or butter

75g / 3 oz plain flour

75g / 3 oz wholemeal flour

75g / 3 oz demarara sugar

1 1/2 lb / 675 g cooking apples

3 oz / 75 g sugar

2 tbsp water

Grease a medium-sized pie dish. Rub fat into flours until the

mixture resembles breadcrumbs, stir in the sugar.

Peel, core and thinly slice the apples. Put the apples in the

dish, sprinkle with sugar and water.

Pile the crumble mixture over until the apples are completely

covered. Bake at 180C, 350F, Gas 4, until fruit is cooked and

crumble is golden brown.

Serve with lots and lots of custard!
