Apple Dumplings
2 cups sugar2 cups water
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup butter
6 apples
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup milk
Make syrup of sugar, water and cinnamon. Add butter. Heat until
syrup is no longer "grainy". Pare and core apples, then slice.
Sift flour, salt and baking powder then cut in shortening. Add
milk all at once; stir until moistened. Roll 1/4 inch thick. Cut
into 5 inch squares. Sprinkle squares with cinnamon/sugar and dot
with butter. Place apple slices on square and pinch edges together.
Put in greased dish and pour the syrup over. Bake at 375 degrees
for 35 mins.
