Apple Dumplings

2 cups sugar

2 cups water

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 cup butter

6 apples

2 cups flour

1 tsp salt

2 tsp baking powder

3/4 cup shortening

1/2 cup milk

Make syrup of sugar, water and cinnamon. Add butter. Heat until

syrup is no longer "grainy". Pare and core apples, then slice.

Sift flour, salt and baking powder then cut in shortening. Add

milk all at once; stir until moistened. Roll 1/4 inch thick. Cut

into 5 inch squares. Sprinkle squares with cinnamon/sugar and dot

with butter. Place apple slices on square and pinch edges together.

Put in greased dish and pour the syrup over. Bake at 375 degrees
