Black Berries and Dumplings

2 quarts blackberries

1 cup sugar

1 batch dumpling dough

Heat in large pan blackberries and sugar until bubbly and syrupy.

Drop in dumplings by the tablespoon and cook 10 minutes uncovered and

10 minutes covered, stirring occassionally.

Dumpling Dough

3 Tablespoons shortening

1 1/2 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup milk

Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt until mixture

resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk. Drop into berries. Makes

about 10 dumplings.

We usually let it cool somewhat and added a small amount of milk

before eating.
