Weighing vs. measuring

I have been following the thread about weighing versus measuring

with enough interest to motivate me to buy a scale. I have not

seen any posts with the weight listed for various ingredients, so,

here is a list I worked up in my kitchen. I used a Polder electronic

model 936-2 scale, capacity 4 pounds 8 ounces. It measures in

one eighth ounce increments.

1 c flour (unsifted) 5 oz

1 c flour (sifted) 4 1/4 oz

1 c Masa Harina (Quaker) 4 7/8 oz

1 c white granulated sugar (C&H cane) 6 3/4 oz

1 c Dark brown sugar (Vons) not packed 4 7/8 oz

1 c Dark brown sugar (Vons) packed 6 5/8 oz

1 c Long grain white rice 6 1/2 oz

1 c water (8 fluid oz.) 8 1/8 oz

1 c milk 2% Jerseymaid (8 fluid oz.) 8 1/4 oz
